firsts

This week, Thea has come down with her first cold. Surprisingly, I've been fairly relaxed about the whole thing. And, with her first cold have come other firsts - first solo rectal thermometer temperature check, first experience with infant saline nasal drops, and first dose of baby pain reliever.
Since my sick little girl needs lots of extra snuggling, I may not be posting much this week.
Today, she stayed in her pj's all day - simply because that's what I like to do when I'm sick.
Here she is letting me know that even though she feels icky, it's all going to be alright :

hello, sweet baby!

She's so cute! Hope she feels better in a snap. If the stuffiness gets out of control, may I recommend a tool called Nosefrida (you'll find it, along with reviews, on Amazon). Much better than the bulb at getting the snot out, and easier on her little nose - and keeping her nose clean will minimize the chances of the virus getting into her ears or lungs. It helped me so much that I always recommend it now, and I give it to my friends at baby showers. Hope you don't mind the recommendation.

Sorry to hear about the cold! But she definitely looks like a trouper. She must get it from her momma! Cute picture.

Looking at her sweet face you'd never know she was snot-beset! What a darling, and what a good mama to be so very calm in the face of cold #1. :)
We are SOOOO up for a coffee shop meet up if she (and Sarah) are all better next week.
It may sound odd, but I almost miss the days of the "boogie sucker!"
(We found sleeping with head elevated helped a lot...either in a bouncy or other doc-approved sleep venue. :) )

Aw... good move on the PJs. Always makes me feel better too. Did you try a humidfier for her room too? Helped mine. Take care of that sweet baby! Hope she feels better soon.

How I wish the first was the last, but somehow, every one is always the first.

Ahhh.. the first cold. Ava had hers a few weeks ago while we were visiting with my parents. She was stuffy for the entire week and hated every bit of the nasal aspirator (funny though, because I'd used it on her regularly and she never had a problem with it - the first time she actually could really benefit from it, all hell breaks loose!)
A former coworker recommended the Nosefrida to me; she swore by it! I promptly ordered one but by the time we received it, there wasn't much to remove (a polite way of saying, not much snot left!) so I didn't love it; will definitely give it a try with the next cold and see how it works then.
Make sure you have a good swaddle blanket or towel nearby - the was the only way Ava would stop squirming long enough for me to clean her nose. If only I'd thought of that at the beginning of the cold and not near the end... but the things you learn :)
Hope Thea feels better soon - and that you stay cold-free!

Awww, she even looks like she feels bad. Yucky.
I recommend saline nasal mist. It works so much better than the drops. It comes in a can that looks like styling mousse.
